Singapore Port Sees Box Volumes Drop 3.5 Percent in March

    The port of Singapore moved lower container throughput in March compared to a year ago, but volumes rose month-on-month, according to preliminary estimates from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

    In March, Singapore port recorded throughput of 2.74m teu, down 3.5 percent compared to 2.84m teu registered in the same period of 2014, MPA figures showed.

    On a month-on-month comparison, box volumes in March improved by 5 percent compared to 2.61m teu seen in February.

    In the first three months of 2015, Singapore port handled a total throughput of 8.13m teu, up 2.4 percent compared to 7.94m teu recorded in the previous corresponding period. (Ast)
