China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) is planning to send eight elderly ships to the scrapyard as part of its ongoing fleet renewal programme.

The elderly ships involved are two aframax oil tankers and six dry bulk carriers, all of which operates under Youhua Shipping, a subsidiary of CMES.

CMES has yet to disclose the names and age of the eight ships.

The tanker and bulker Chinese shipowner has been disposing of several elderly vessels in an effort to lower its operating costs and average age of its fleet. (Ast)
